Open Letter to the Palestinians

27 Mar

Dear Palestinians,

please cut it out? And I don’t mean the beating heart of another zionist. I understand your anger, I agree you are right to be angry, and the extent that I am capable of, even share it. What the Israeli government – my government – has been doing to you since the foundation of the state, is a disgrace and an atrocity, from the razing of houses to the shooting of children.

But for fuck’s sake. You will never free Palestine or end the occupation by stabbing, car-ramming, shooting, bombing, or otherwise attacking Israelis. Israel will always be stronger; you will never have our military power. And I understand that beyond logical motivations, there is the urge to continue a historical resistance, though futile, just to demonstrate your defiance and hatred of the situation. That, too, I understand. Only dead fish swim with the current.

But for fuck’s sake. You are helping the zionist agenda. Yes, you are helping the Israeli government oppress, rob, and kill you. Every time you attack an Israeli, my government says, “Look world, this is why we have to oppress them! This is why we have to take and control their land! This is why we bulldoze their homes! This is why we have to shoot them at the slightest suspicion of a butter knife in their pocket! Because they keep attacking us!”
You are doing my government a great favour by perpetually attacking us. You are justifying being treated like animals by behaving like animals. You think a prison is going to release a convict if and because he beats up the guards every time he’s let out into the cafeteria? No. This prolongs his sentence.

And Allah’s will? Seriously? Allah, the Gracious, wants you to walk into your death, break your family’s hearts, just so the zionists have an excuse to make your family homeless and abuse your people some more? Your struggle isn’t the only thing historical here. Your people, the Palestinians, being abused more every time one of you attacks an Israeli, is also a historical event that repeats itself without failure.

Every attack from you against us, makes your situation worse. I’m not telling you to love us. You’re right to hate us (well, not me, I’m nice, I give great head). I hate the government and its executioners, too. Hate us till the cows come home. We have not given you a reason not to. But for fuck’s sake, please internalize that your “armed resistance” is only making your situation worse. Yeah, we mourn our losses… But every single time, you get a disproportionately worse response, don’t you?

For fuck’s sake, cut it out. It’s stupid, pointless, and only moves you farther away from your goals. We will never lose to you, and my government will never leave you alone if you keep giving it excuses to abuse you. Stop this shit. I want both our people to live in peace, even if we can’t stand each other’s smell. But my government wants you to continue attacking us, because you are helping it abuse you.

Don’t do the zionists that favor.

Sincerely,
an Israeli

How old are you? Five?

You know, I need to make one thing very clear: I do not hate Israel. I hate my government for how it treats the Palestinians and then wonders why there is no peace. The approach of “Let’s fuck their shit up, that’ll make’em stop being mean to us” is simply… what can I say… Well. And I hate my government for how it puts Israelis in harm’s way, and on the few days it doesn’t, simply neglects our well-being.
However, I do not hate Israel as a country, or Israelis as a people.

But they, we, can be unbelievable douchebags. 130 people are dead. People who lived in a country that, unlike Israel and the usa, manages to stay out of war and conflict for the most part. Cowards? I prefer calling it intelligence. As Mufasa said – “I’m only brave when I have to be”, and France is one of those smart countries that don’t provoke or aggravate situations where they “have to be”. Take notes, tantrum nations.
Now a lot of people are changing their Facebook profile pictures to the French flag. Personally, I do not participate. I have said my share of condemnation for the attacks, and I feel shaken and saddened for those poor people. However, I am done waving flags around – any flag. Flags represent places with borders and borders represent divisiveness.
To me, one human life is not worth less than another as long as neither has done horrible things to hurt another human life. An innocent Frenchman, to me, is no less precious than an innocent Jew or Palestinian, or Pygmy. Beirut has been torn apart just before Paris. Syria is being ripped to bloody shreds 24/7, and a Kenyan university was slaughtered in April and there were no hashtags…
I can’t put up a flag for every country or its people under attack or else that’d be my only activity day in, day out. And I will not make a selection what flag to display in solidarity, because then I would imply that the victims of one nationality are more deserving of my tears, than another. So, no flags from me. They are all in my heart and I have no need to wear my views on my picture, just as I don’t style myself to fit the scene of my preferred genre of music, and just as I don’t wear a cross around my neck while, though not observant, Jesus and the Church have played a role in my upbringing. It’s all in my heart and in my words – and that is enough.

Now, the disgrace is as follows. Israeli Jews are indeed frequent victims of terrorism. For which I blame my government just as much as the Palestinian radicals committing or encouraging the crimes. I feel for those victims who were not settlers hacking down Palestinian property and who were not soldiers beating up 12-year-old Arab boys. As I said, I hurt for all victims of violence – be it terror, rape, or school bullying. A Jewish victim of Palestinian terror is no more tragic and no more dead, than a girl shot by her jealous ex.
But when it comes to terror and hate crime? you’re a Jew! You know your peoples’ history! You/they have been persecuted, slaughtered, boykotted, hated. Where is your compassion now when it happens to someone else? This is the atrocity that puts Israel in the position and the bad light it is in today – too many nationalist Jews have learned the wrong lessons from the Holocaust. While Germany has turned 180° and compassionately, at some risk indeed, receives people running for their lives from the slaughter the Jews once tried to run from and found no country to rescue them, today’s Israeli Jewish nationalist screams for the borders to be closed to the Sudanese who get bombed daily. They act with dismay when Israeli soldiers – the ones they love to parade around as ever so compassionate – show that compassion by treating wounded Syrian civilians and combatants. Many of today’s Israeli nationalist Jews want people in situations similar to that of Europe’s Jews in the 40s, to be denied shelter just as Jews were denied shelter then, but continue to demand of gentiles to protect Jews, while not caring too much about gentiles in duress themselves, it seems.
It’s truly hilarious. They screech at the world how inclusive, welcoming, compassionate, diverse, tolerant, and humane Israel is, but when that compassion shows for anyone other than Jews… you throw a fucking tantrum because you feel the compassion isn’t mutual.

Because, and you’re right, the world doesn’t do a whole lot of #PrayforIsrael or Israeli flag profile pictures. There is an injustice there. But the injustice is mutual, don’t you think? Oh, because they’re being unfair, so you must be, too? Well, that’s also a mutual philosophy. And it’s shit. You can’t parade yourself around as a moral person representing God’s Chosen People (TM) and at the same time, deny a show of compassion to victims of violence just because you haven’t seen much coming your way. Compassion isn’t a currency, it’s a manifest of humanity, you assholes, and a requirement for godliness last time I checked.
If you were to get over your self/nation-centered self-pity, you might find the world’s attitude towards the Israeli people changing. The first step is up to you; nobody can make Israel look good but Israel itself.

The other thing is, the media coverage and pity you demand is simply not in proportion to our actual losses to Palestinian terror. I’m pretty sure, were 129 Israelis to die in one attack, that things would look much different. But most attacks claim about as many lives as any other murder – muggings, armed robberies, home invasions, school shootings, crimes of passion… I’m sorry? Why would two Jewish victims of a Palestinian terorrist be worth millions of solidarity pics and hashtags on social media and headlines in all international papers, if the same attention would never be given to a domestic murder-suicide with the same number of dead? You’re expecting special treatment: for every single Jewish victim you want to see a wave of outrage, while the media simply don’t usually do “One person got murdered today, somewhere in the world”, if the murder isn’t too unusual in nature. Why should they for Jewish victims of terror, what’s so special about that? It being a regular thing? Oh, and school shootings and domestic violence and suicides aren’t? Individual corpses, much less non-lethal stabbings, don’t make headlines, Jew or no Jew, people stab each other all the time.

130 people died a brutal, undeserved death. Many more do in Syria and Sudan and other countries. You don’t care. You have no right to complain that this lack of outrage is mutual. Unless you’re like the Nazis and consider the lives of one ethnicity more precious than those of another. Are you?

The world’s atittude towards Israel is not one of anti-semitism for the most part, it’s one of “WTF why are those people so self-centered and inconsiderate for, while whining that they’re not being treated nicely themselves?”. And you are doing all in your power to keep it that way.
You do that when you dedicate your spare time to tell your fellow Israeli Jews to be ashamed of themselves for showing solidarity with Paris. If you were truly worthy of the title of God’s Chosen People (TM), you would dismiss the lack of reciprocity and, even if you don’t participate in the displays of support, keep your begrudging mouth shut and don’t attack others for showing that support. You should encourage any behavior that makes Israelis look better in the eyes of the world. Instead, you want Sudanese sent back to their certain deaths because some of them may steal a bicycle, you want Palestinians to be treated like animals in hopes that’ll shut them up, and you yell at people for openly supporting the victims of an atrocity.

You are a horrible Jew and you are a horrible human being. Stop picking and choosing who deserves sympathy by ethnicity, faith, or nationality. Stop pissing all over global grief for 130 dead by screeching that the occasional 1 to 3 victims of terror in Israel don’t get the same media attention because the concept of proportion is lost on you. And stop complaining that nobody shows you sympathy when you show it only to your own yourself. Compassion is ideally mutual, but when it isn’t, you should still be able to figure out which option leads to better relations and understanding, and it isn’t “La la la you don’t put up my flag, so I don’t put up yours!”

We will never find peace if we expect others to treat us better than we treat them. One has to take the first step – them or us, indeed. If not them, then I guess we have to do it ourselves. Showing compassion is never wrong. And whatever you get out of it, you did the right thing by offering your compassion, your tears, your sympathy. Only good can come out of not being a complete and utter cunt.

The Middle East Inversion

10 Nov

Last Saturday’s new episode of Doctor Who, now featuring the 12th incarnation of the lone and loved Timelord, drove a bulldozer from the last demolished Palestinian home right through my chest. If you live in a peaceful, stable nation that merely exports weapons to less stable nations and cashes in on the death and destruction they sow, you may have seen just another profound speech by a fictional TV icon, on a fictional war.

The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is pointing at us.

The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is pointing at us.

When you live in Israel, or across the fence, the wall, the checkpost, you have seen your people and those on the other side. You’ve seen youngsters throwing rocks and firebombs at soldiers and settlers, and you’ve seen soldiers shoot those kids, you’ve seen settlers attacking soldiers for failing to shoot and kill those kids, you’ve seen those kids’ parents drive into a crowd or stab a passer-by. You’ve seen bulldozers razing the homes of a terrorist’s family – not the terrorist’s home – and you’ve seen crowds shouting for bloody revenge.
And if you’re not completely jaded to what’s happening all around you, a bus ride from your doorstep at most, it hurt. It hurt having the Doctor pointing at you, your people, your government, your friend with that army-issued rifle or that home-made firebomb. Your cousin who takes the order to bulldoze the home of a terrorist’s mother, when nowhere else in the civilized world, family would be punished for their kin’s deeds. Your brother driving that borrowed car into a flock of children.

But while you may know those who do the deed – the Israeli soldiers, settlers, bulldozer drivers, the Palestinian stabbers, bombers, road ragers – you never know who they’ll hit. Does it feel right to know it’s none on your side? Or do you just feel numb, knowing at least you won’t be mourning anyone, for now? Is it not being someone from your side, good enough to sleep at night, knowing a person you know, is destroying a family who is also a person someone knows, someone loves?

Truth: You don’t know who the next Naftali Frenkel or Muhammad Abu Khdeir is going to be. You don’t know. But someone is going to die at someone else’s hand.

Consequence: This will never bring us peace. This will never free Palestine, this will never give the Jewish people a rest. You can’t expect people not to retaliate against perceived wrongs, much less when those wrongs precede a funeral. The consequence will be more death, and if one of yours has killed one of theirs, then one of yours will die. It will always be this way unless someone starts forgiving.

Two days ago, I was shopping cat food at my pet shop. The staff and I were having pizza and a laugh when the new girl got a call. There was some agitated talk in Russian, and I was just going to do an impression of angry Russian speech, when she hung up, and, staring blankly ahead, said: “My friend died.” The 20-year-old border guard, Binyamin Yakobowitz, who looks like 14 in Haaretz’s article, had been the “someone I know” of “someone I know”. You may just cringe, make a sad face, even feel a stab in your chest when you read names of casualties on your side, but you don’t know them, so you mourn them as you would Heath Ledger. Somehow you keep telling yourself: it’s never gonna be anyone I know. Yes, my friend at the pet shop told herself the same, I’m sure. Most Palestinians, those who hate Israelis, but abhorr violence, don’t want youths going out to attack soldiers or civilians, they hate hearing someone from their neighborhood has committed an attack. Not just because they know someone who isn’t the perpetrator, will suffer for the actions of the latter, but also because they might one day find themselves too close to the Israeli retaliation squad. However, they reall start internalizing how bad these attacks are, when it’s their own flesh and blood who eats retaliation. They, like us, tell themselves it’s never them, always the others. It’s always the others’ fault, and it’s always the others’ losses.

No.

We are all the others. And we never know who’ll be mourning whom next. But what we all must internalise, is that the mourning will continue, and one day hit too close for comfort, unless either of us, any of us, stop making others mourn.

Not that again

In response to this lady’s typical one-sided tirade about only Muslims being horrible for following a questionable leader…

She’s raised a Muslim in the Middle East? She says so, but I see she didn’t keep an accent. And even if she is, she’s one person with a clearly very one-sided view. Being of a culture doesn’t mean you have an objective view on it. If a Christian girl tries to convince you that all Christians are horrible because she had a mother like Carrie’s and went to virginity balls and had creepy pictures taken with her dad, will you declare her a credible source on Christianity? One needs to look at a culture from a point of view much broader than one individual’s questionable testimony. Her profile also smacks of radicalism, though not Islamic. “It’s them or us” is the most paranoid, violence-excusing phrase one could think of. She’s the pot calling the kettle black. Everything Mohammed did wrong, people of all creeds do wrong to this day except slavery because that’s mostly dealt with.

She’ll paint all Muslims with the same broad brush because of their prophet, while the absolute and undeniable reality is that people of all religions believe and practice to different degrees and only few do to an extreme that could be cause for concern. That is why it’s called extremism.

We could apply the same arguments – “your prophet was a jerk” – to other religions. I mean, a father who’s willing to stab his son because his God says so? Jesus letting himself be tortured to death instead of saving himself and his followers from persecution by lying? Or celebrating people having their babies killed, gloating about it in songs at he dinner table, when one could just celebrate the liberation without all the horrors that befell the captors and their innocent families? We could make all religions look very, very horrible by focusing on only the bad stuff. Crusades…

As for the rapist part. When did Islam start? Back when rape wasn’t a huge crime and neither was pedophilia which, by the way, is also found in fundamentalistic Christian communities, and outside of religious frameworks. Let’s take a moment to be ashamed of modern society for around when spousal rape was finally outlawed. But Muslims are savages for following a prophet who was a rapist when it wasn’t culturally considered a big deal, and when they do not actually emulate his actions? And mass murderer? Every leader who has led his country into a war that killed significant numbers of innocent people, is right up there with Mohammed.
Liar, cheater, thief? Most of us are. Everyone who’s illegally downloaded, is a thief. Millions cheat on tests. EVERYBODY LIES. Adultery? Have a gander at how many non-Muslim married people cheat. And sex slaves? All those white Christian and Atheist men fuelling Asian child prostitution…. And speaking of slavery, again, Mohammed was 1000+ years ago, black slavery merrily celebrated by Christians is recent enough to still resonate within society in the shape of race dynamics.

Yes, the Qu’ran encourages many horrible things, but so does the Bible, where are the hate tirades and the fear mongering against Christians because while they don’t hurt anyone, they may believe in someone who has? Christians, too, are committing many atrocities to this day, but people see a cross and feel reassured, how can that be? The reason why Islam doesn’t scare me is because I have faith in human nature, which is the hypocrisy of picking and choosing what part of your religion you wish to represent with earnest conviction. MOST religious people including Muslims, will draw the line at violence. Yes, the book is brutal, no, the prophet wasn’t a nice guy, but as with any questionable religious passages, people conveniently skip them for the most part.
Actually, even in Muslim countries and communities, rape and violence has been largely outlawed. Palestinian girls go to parties and concerts unaccompanied and dressed as skimpy as Israeli girls, and they can, because just as Christian atrocities, Islamic atrocities are largely a thing of the past and not fit for our times. As everything else, Islam is subject to change and interpretation. Some take it too literally and go bomb people. Others, most, take what agrees with them and their social upbringing, and leave people alone.

Social upbringing is key. It’s always easy to radicalize or turn into a criminal, someone from a crappy background, religious or not. Brits have been recruited into radical Islam, without regular Islam as a gateway, and they were all from not-so-enviable environments. A Muslim raised in a decent setting is far less likely to become a violent Islamist because violence is the language of the desperate and the angry. Islam doesn’t make you angry, radical Islam recruits those who already are. Actually, many civil wars and conflicts among Muslims today have not started through religion, but religious nuts resulted from the frustration and hopelessness, and escalated or exploited the situation.
Why are so many Muslims fleeing for Europe? Because the Islamic extremists are not who they want to live under, because that is not what they believe in. Many of those who join, do under duress rather than conviction. Hell, I’d join if the alternative were a bullet in the head.
Muslims commit crimes under Mo’s name just like other creeds. All in the name of God or his spokesman, either as an excuse or out of fanaticism. Her singling out Islam is like a Christian nutter singling out gay people. Hitler was a Roman Catholic. If we were to condemn a culture, a people, a religion, over their (long dead) leader’s crap, there wouldn’t be much left to praise.

As for Jihad, she fails to consider that everything in religious books, whether the book allows it or not, is up to interpretation. Jihad means struggle, fight, but it can mean all sorts of personal struggles. It can mean hitting the treadmill and quitting smoking – and for the nutters it can mean to blow up a bus of unbelievers. But when she said, “You deserve anything that comes to you”, she pretty much showed us who the bad person is here, because if you deserve potentially horrible things just for believing something, well… I have a Muslim friend whose name is literally Islam. I’m sure he believes in Jihad. In terms of: stop brawling, quit smoking, start saving money. He believes in it and he practices it. So if some nutwing goes and stabs him for that, he deserves that? That is what this woman is suggesting, and that’s a very violent way of thinking… thoughts need to be free and wishing “everything that comes to you” on a person for their thoughts, is exactly what radical Islam would be all about. I love the irony of it and it’s so typical.

Anyway, exerting effort for the sake of Allah? Allah wants a lot of things, many of which good, others bad, but so do all gods. The Christian God threatens with Hell and floods and Armageddon for every wind you break, can’t even masturbate safely. How can you single out Allah’s wishes? How much murder has been and is being committed in the name of the Christian/Catholic god, how much hate is being spread? All these Gods ask a lot, and every believer will choose other things to fulfill. I think the picture sums it up that shows radical Islamists and the KKK next to each other and saying, “If this represents all Muslims, then this represents all Christians”.
She presents only a fraction of Islamic “commandments”. Another is to feed the needy. If you see bread left outside on walls etc. that’s mostly Muslims being Muslims. Every God wants everyone to adhere to his religion unquestioningly, and even Judaism, while not encouraging conversion, places significantly less value on people outside of that religion. Islam is not special in this aspect, either. Bullying people into conversion is an extremist action, and extremists are called that NOT because they’re common. Most don’t CARE what religion you are as long as you leave them alone. They may sneer at you, but isn’t that mutual?

And while Islam is not a race, it’s still dimwitted to say they’re all terrorists just because their religion endorses conditional violence. Most religions do.
And worshipping a man who has committed or ordered horrible acts, may be questionable, but it’s not a Muslim exclusive as I said. Bush was reelected. Hitler still has fans. Satan has a cult. And the 7 plagues that hit Egypt? Yeah, slavery is horrible, but killing everyone’s babies..? Not that I believe in the 7 plagues, but it still shouldn’t be the subject of happy dinner table songs.

It’s true that Islam is currently a major perpetrator of religious violence, but this is now, and Christians mustn’t forget what atrocities have brought them the powerful, influential position they have in the world today. One day, Islam will be in the past, so let’s not excuse Christianity for having bettered itself somewhat.
The biggest rapist, thief, and murderer is not Mohammed and not the average Muslim, it’s the male human on a global scale from New York to the Masaai Mara. We shouldn’t just focus on religion in regards to violence and hate. When we take religion out of the picture, we’ll see that it’s everywhere and it doesn’t take a Muslim to walk into a classroom with a gun.
She should check her country’s statistics and then run her mouth about what group is most violent in %. My money is on white males.

This woman is the prime example of what happens when you choose to only read and see what fits your belief system. She too is an extremist. She presents the subject in a very one-sided way for the sake of spreading a certain opinion of it. That’s extremist indoctrination at its finest.

Lastly, Italians aren’t a race either unless you’re gonna lump them in with other white people. They’re an ethnic group within whites. While ethnicity and race are often used interchangeably, strictly speaking, they are not the same. Making race about country, has been debunked when Hitler tried to declare Germans a race when half of Europe looked Aryan.

No lessons learned.

24 Jul

Some people claim to have learned lessons from the missile attacks on Israel, such as all of this being mere antisemitism and a repetition of the Third Reich. The same people probably also very carefully select their history books and happily buy into one-sided narratives that suit their comfort zone.

Personally, I like to leave my comfort zone and question things that sound too easy, such as “It’s all those Muslims’ fault, Israel is totally innocent”. Rarely can such long-lasting conflicts be blamed on one side making all the mistakes. Scrap that – never. So I left my comfort zone. I got sick. I cried. I raged. Then I calmed down and resumed leaving my comfort zone further and further behind.
Those who know me, know I refuse to view things in black and white, especially things as large as the Middle East conflict. I mean, I used to. But as a meritocrat and passionate intellectual and academic, I cannot breathe when I am not learning and feeding my mind facts.

One such fact-feeding endeavor was when I started feeling weird about calling my land grandfather, Naeim Giladi, a senile traitor. I never met the men. I never listened to the man’s interviews or read his articles. All I knew about him, were statements from my parents about him having hated Israel. That made it simple for me.
But then I remembered my mother hates big dogs – and I love them! Have I ever dismissed my mother’s feelings in favor of my own? I mean, other than when I bought that Akita without asking her first… Wait a second! My mother hand been the victim of a horrific attack by a big dog, and witnessed another big dog kill a child on accident, by the mere force of its leap. While it may be wrong to hate all big dogs now, her hatred is not something that can be dismissed as the manifestation of an evil person’s black heart.

Now, there were two kinds of Israel haters I also wanted to examine more closely: my grandfather, and a big portion of Palestinians. I buy the blanket hatred against Israel as little as I bought Israel’s consistently pointing the finger at others anymore. Because both attitudes are wrong.
I found most answers in my grandfather’s book; a large portion of its content can be researched and confirmed by anyone who wishes to do so.
Now, we can line up a few very simple facts to begin with – facts not exclusively found in Naeim’s book.
1. Israel was not built on deserted land; people have been living there – and not only Jews.
2. Palestine as a nation state may never have existed, but the land had indeed been referred to as Palestine and both local Jews and non-Jewish Arabs called Palestinians.
3. There is no Evil Gene in Muslims or Arabs that makes them born anti-semitic. Political views and religious beliefs are taught. Always. Sometimes by the object of the hatred.

Looking at these facts, anyone with an open mind and average intelligence or above, should feel a question nagging at them: if the land had been inhabited by people previously to the establishment of the state of Israel, where had they gone, and why did they leave? And why do Arabs appear to hate Israel?

The Quran says nothing about Jews needing to die. Many Israel lobbyists actually use the Quran to discredit radical Islamists, saying that the Quran itself approves of Jews. However, the very same lobbyists now lose their argument against Muslims: well obviously, they don’t hate us because their religion tells them to!
In a propaganda video, an Israel lobbyist remarks that Arabs started attacking Jews in 1947. Why not earlier? Why then? Did a new mind control virus that only Arabs are susceptible to, break out in the Middle East? No. There was no Hitler Aids epidemic. A much different disease broke out that year: white supremacy. 1947 was the year that the state of Israel started to be built, by white Jews handed the land by white British to do with as they pleased.
Now, wait a minute! What are the British doing assigning and reassigning land that isn’t really theirs? Oh, wait, he’ve had this before. South Africa for example, where white people invaded the land, grabbed it, and shooed all the native black people into slums. And we also had this in america, where white people invaded the land, grabbed it, butchered the Natives, and had black slaves build them (the whites) something cozy.

In other words, God didn’t give us Israel unless the Brits are his angels. Now, answer me honestly with “Yes” or “No” when I ask you if the native people of a land can be reasonably expected to surrender their homes and leave just because a bunch of foreigners are holding a holy book in one hand and a gun in the other, saying “God wants me to live here, now fuck off or I’ll make you”?
Because, see, it’s not really relevant whether the Palestinian Muslims were kicked out or herded into today’s Gaza Strip and the Best Wank after having fought and lost an armed struggle, or whether they had been helplessly beaten there every step of the way. Unless you are their landlord and they stopped paying the rent, you are never right to see people out of their homes, much less expect them to “get over it”.

This is also why the argument of the Palestinian Muslims having been offered such and such strip of land by Israel, is invalid. You can’t throw me out of my home and into a much crappier place, and then expect me to forgive you by offering me some bumblefuck place in the middle of nowhere. The scorn of being offered a consolation prize by the one who attacked and robbed me for no good reason, should be apparent even to the thickest among you.

See, before the state of Israel was established, Muslims did not hate Jews. Both groups were well respected by the other, and coexisted just fine. Muslims also would not have minded Israel being established on truly vacant land. But you sort of need to understand their feeling of resentment when Jews who aren’t even from around here – European, Russian, american, Soviet – Jews come and build their cities over the forcefully vacated houses of the Muslim inhabitants of that land.

My grandfather came to hate Israel after having loved and nearly died for it. Such a change of heart doesn’t happen over night and is not a decision one takes consciously. It is something that happens when enough is enough. In the beginning, my grandfather had been enthusiastic about the idea of a Jewish state. He helped smuggle Jews out of Iraq so they could start a new life in Israel. He went to death row for this endeavor.
Sadly, he soon found out that not only was that state built at the expense of a large part of the land’s inhabitants, the pogroms he and other Arab Jews fled to Israel from, had also largely been staged or deliberately provoked by Israel’s founders themselves in an effort to populate Israel with Jews as quickly and as massively as possible. And when the Arab Jews arrived, they found that this land was built and run by white people who needed the Arab Jews mostly to replace the cheap labor force that the Muslim Arabs would have been, had they not been paid or forced to leave their homeland because Muslims weren’t quite the right kind of population for a Jewish state. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Naeim Giladi gave Israel the finger and left.

Fast-forward to the 21. century.

Hamas is throwing rockets at, and Best Wankers are slitting throats of, Jewish Israelis. Now, while I know many simpletons haunt the net including this blog, I must ask you not to misread me: I do not defend the attacks on civilians. I consider the Itamar massacre, the missiles upon Israel, the murder of the three Jewish boys, as horrible a violent crime, as any. And I have no patience for violent criminals whatsoever. Be it a punch, a rape, or a massacre, I hate violent criminals.
However 1.
Strangely, mere suspects in the triple murder had had their houses bulldozed by Israel, which brutally arrested hundreds in the search for the killers. Now, when a Jew murders an Arab Muslim, Israel proceeds a lot more gently. Gag orders on identities even after confessions were made, the option to plead insanity, and obviously, no relatives of the suspect/convict having their homes destroyed. Why this difference in procedure? Why handle Muslims more roughly than Jews, for the same kind of crime? 40s america, anyone? Yes, I’ll just say it right here: Israel is treating its so-called citizens like america treated black people back then, with that very same attitude that turns “blacks” into “niggers”. Yes, as long as these Palestinians are under Israel’s thumb, they are its citizens. And Palestinian Authority or not, they are under Israel’s thumb or else Israel couldn’t just barge in as convenient, and arrest people and bulldoze their homes. The PA is a strawman, a joke, a comforter to silence those who say that Israel is robbing the Palestinian Arabs of their sovereignty. Israel still holds most power over the territories, whatever anyone may call them.

However 2.
The claim that Israel left Gaza for peace… If Israel can continue to carry out target assassinations and control what goes in and out of Gaza, and even switch off their electricity, Israel is not “out of Gaza”. It is so far up Gaza’s ass that Gaza is shitting Osem.
Ah, yes, Osem, another interesting point. Israel prides itself in delivering food and electricity to Gaza. Are prisons proud to say that their inmates receive the bare minimum required to survive? Not really, prisons rarely start bragging at any degree below offering continuing education and ways to re-establish oneself after release. Except, other than the terrorists there, Gaza is not just a cesspool of criminals and hence should not serve as a prison – there are normal people there whose only reason to hate Israel is to be caught in the middle of a fight they didn’t ask for.
Now you’ll ask a very valid question: “Why then, do they support Hamas?” Because Hamas still gives them more compassion than Israel does. Hamas may be evil, but when one side makes you poor, keeps you cooped up in slums, and makes sure you live a pointless life, and the other side gives or promises you purpose (even if through death), yet happens to be evil, well..? Consider that the Gazans consist of many generations of living and dying with the same pointlessness, and getting the same undignified treatment from Israel, and the same rhethoric from Hamas. There is no new fresh generation of hope there, only a repetition of not so ancient history.

Also consider that nobody is born suicidal or commits suicide easily. No matter what our beliefs, survival instinct stops most of us from crossing certain lines. Suicide bombings or endangering one’s life by firing missiles or otherwise directly attacking Israel, are not part of Islam, and are contrary to our supreme survival instincts. Please, by all means, DO doubt that these terrorists kill themselves with any more ease than do other broken-hearted people in a last-ditch attempt to either end their own misery, or pave the way to a better future for their loved ones (no matter how wrong they may be to expect that to come out of their deeds). Suicide is always an act of despair. Muslims are no different. Muslims do not lack survival instinct, they do not have a kill-yourself-plus-infidels gene.

And food isn’t all people need to live a life that is too good to be wasted on hatred and terrorism. People need quality water. Reliable power. New clothes, decent health care/services, construction/renovation materials, decent schools and colleges, recreation. Israel mustn’t pride itself in throwing the Gazans a few tons of Osem. Would you praise a junkyard owner for throwing his chained dog low-quality kibble and water, while denying the animal all the other things it needs to live a dignified version of its one and only fleeting life, and beating it whenever it misbehaves as a result? Well, the Gazans are that dog.

Fact: Gazans are born into a futile existence. There are no career paths there, no academic institutions, no airports to leave for a better life. They are born like hamsters in a pet shop, to either be eaten by their cage mates due to overpopulation and stress, or be bought by thoughtless adults as playthings for their children. Even if Hamas were funding education and prosperity for all their citizens, there would be no point to it. There is no getting out of Gaza. So Hamas investing in picking up the place, would merely result in the cage getting a golden paint job.

So how can you be surprised that they tolerate or even support Hamas, knowing full well that Hamas endangers their lives as much as Israel renders them futile? At least, Hamas promises them that their deaths will have purpose, while Israel makes sure that their lives do not.

After you’ve let that sink in – or so I hope – I’m sure you’ll understand the following: today, especially among young people who haven’t lived through enough history yet, a lot of the anti-Israel sentiment among Muslims and pro-Palestinians may have transformed into blanket antisemitism. Many may not know exactly what they are protesting or defending, and many may simply use the plight of the Palestinians as an excuse for racism.
However. The source of the hostility of Palestinians towards Jews, is not religiously or ethnically motivated. No matter what today’s generation may explain their feelings with, the conflict started because people were made homeless and empoverished for the sake of the Jewish state. For the sake of the Jewish state, its previous indigenous inhabitants have been split into two groups according to their religion and ancestry: Jews were declared citizens and Muslims were declared fuck-them. And now the Israel lobby is one-sidedly blaming them for the conflict, hiding behind pathetic, half-assed “outreach” and “offers” to pretend that they have, indeed, tried solving the conflict. However, you simply cannot expect people to stop hating you just because you offer them a bandaid for the shotgun wound you put in them when you took over their home.

Now, you are probably going to say I am one-sidedly blaming Israel. Well, not really. The land grab was initiated by the British, and Jews just happily took what they were offered – as would anyone. However, what Jews then proceeded to do, is unjustifiable. But so is terrorism, such as dumping missiles on civilians. However, it’s the only thing a desperate people such as the Gazans know how to do anymore to move Israel in any way. Israel is so strong and dominant that force seems the only way to still so much as scratch us. While Israel has a right and a duty to defend its citizens, haven’t we seen enough of these wars to know that they are no solution?
If Hamas is destroyed, other terrorist factions will emerge.
The only ways to end the hostility are to either eradicate all of Gaza so no potential attacker is left, and that’s genocide…
Or for Israel to replace Hamas as the bringer of hope and purpose. And this would require Israel to stop treating the Gazans like chained junkyard dogs. It would require Israel to lift the blockade after a long and tolerant probation period during which the people of Gaza would be receiving more than food. Decent health care, rebuilding efforts, and humanity. There is simply no way there will be peace if Israel continues to treat Gazans and West Bank Arabs the way it does now. There is no way there will be peace if Israel continues to treat Jews and non-Jewish Arabs differently, even within “Israeli mainland”. You can simply not reasonably expect Hamas to pack up and leave one day and take all the other militants with them. Not as long as Israel keeps treating Arabs like less-than-human beings, and that is exactly what Israel does every time a Jew gets away with saying “Death to Arabs” while boycotts are staged when an Arab says something similar about Jews. And it is exactly what Israel does when it bulldozes the homes of the suspects in the murder of Jews, yet gives maximum humanity and legal protection to the Jewish murderers of Arabs. It is exactly what Israel does when it coops up a bunch of Arabs in a place where there is no real future, and then bombs them disproportionately for doing what a caged animal does: bite.

Had the roles been reversed, had Jews been the people surrounding a tiny strip of Palestine, forcefully grabbed by foreign Muslim invaders who threw out the Jews, would you sit by idly? Would you accept the situation? This is, again, a very simple Yes/No question. Few things in life are this simple, so rejoyce as you answer!

Drip drip boom

11 Jul

Drip drip boom
The rhythm of the region
Drip drip boom
The song of God’s Chosen People
The chant of Allah’s Chosen Men

Drip, hatred seeps into your home
Drip, hatred creeps into your heart
While it sleeps.
Boom, in the morning it awakens
Sirens blaring, walls are shaking

Drip, three sons, one dying breath
Drip, a young boy burned to death
Blood freezes in their mothers’ hearts
Boom it breaks, blood spills from scars
Another mother soon joins in

Drip, one more green uniform falls
A flower reported, painful calls
Drip, one more green headband dies,
A martyr reported, streets echo with cries
A warrior’s blood, it drips on dirt
It drips unheard
Boom, a mother’s heart has ears

Drip, all mothers’ hearts bleed the same
For Eyal, Mohammed, for the losers of this game
Boom goes the mutual retribution
To make sure the others, too, remain in pain.

Drip goes the conscience after dark
Drip goes the sight that “the others”, in their eyes,
Boom – are us.

Israel loves a good Holocaust

28 Apr

And I’m not singing in tune with radical anti-Israeli armchair warriors who call the situation of the Palestinians a Holocaust. No, I am talking about the historic Holocaust of 1933 to 1945. Israel loves it. It did so much good to the State of Israel. Let’s start with David Ben Gurion and the Zionist movement using the victims as an example of what would happen to you if you don’t do “the right thing” and run your stumpy legs to Israel to up the Jew count there and populate the place – how else would Ben Gurion excuse deporting the Arabs who’ve lived there before us? But even to this day, this use of the Holocaust remains popular. Now every isolated incident of a hate crime against a Jew, is used by the far right Zionists of the land, and their foreign representatives, to remind everybody how isolated antisemtic incidents were “only the beginning” “last time”. Read this book about how David Ben Gurion was actually grateful for the Holocaust, because it opened the door for him to do what he did and get away with it. Not the foundation of the State of Israel… but the methods he used to promote it.

Except, no. Isolated attacks against Jews are not a sign that another Holocaust is breathing down our necks. The recent attack in the US, and before that, in France, and wherever else, have been committed by the same kind of people who would beat up a homosexual, “stand their ground” on a black kid, or make a massacre in a Mosque. Oh wait, that last one was a Jew. They are lone nuts. Lone racists, bigots, fundamentalists, with no organization behind them other than perhaps the KKK or a similar subdued bunch of lunatics. The actual Holocaust was state-made. There were no lone lunatics who were arrested and put away for their deeds. The Toulouse shooter as any other perpetrator of a violent hate crime, have been arrested and treated like the criminals they are by domestic law and law enforcement. During the Holocaust, it was law enforcement that killed the Jews.

Which brings us to the next issue. “Killed the Jews”? Yes, six million of them who must never be forgotten. However, it is no less an atrocity what they did to the other people on Hitler’s shit list. Yet, not only Israel but the entire world love to omit them. Is the life of a Jehova’s witness, of a homosexual, a Roma, communists, or anyone else, less worthy of commemoration? Some 11 million were murdered, and more than half of them, Jews. This is true. But numbers don’t make a life more sacred or a death more horrible. Jews need to stop monopolizing the victim role.

And this brings us to victim roles, obviously. The true victims are dead. Yet somehow, Israel invests obscene amounts of money in the yearly Holocaust Memorial Day, its advertisement, its ceremonies, and its media presence. Why I appreciate something being done to pay respects to the death – speaking of paying, what about the living? I’m not even talking about the general Israeli 99% who are confronted with the daily choice between food and laundry here, I am talking about Holocaust survivors. You know, those elderly people you see going through the trash outside, their camp tattoo sinking deep into the garbage to find returnable bottles or unspoiled food. Why is the money invested in silly ceremonies that do no good other than give us the warm fuzzy feeling that the government cares about our grief, and not in the care of the survivors? So many Holocaust survivors live in poverty, and while I don’t believe that they are any more or less deserving of help than other people who have paid their dues and carried their burden, Israel does try to distinguish itself as the safe haven for Holocaust survivors. The safe haven, the place of no more fear of death. Except, mold-infested apartments where you freeze in the winter and collapse in summer, because what little money these survivors have goes into food and the very clothes on their bodies, can be just as lethal in the long run. Poverty kills. Holocaust survivors who came here from Germany, should have stayed there. Israel is not elevating their life standards, it is investing the money made by the Holocaust franchise, there, I said it, in marketing the Holocaust as another political tool. And what good are a couple of wheezing old people, when you can just use the 6 million that died for your propaganda and your sheep herding purposes? Shouting “6 million! Never again!” is just so much more powerful than showing the face of some old person who we all know is one of the relatively few survivors.

Because propaganda (“hasbarah”) is what Israel’s political activity is all about. Probably literally, because all I ever see, is moving lips, no action. Knowing that we have Holocaust survivors, doesn’t help our government, or us, to keep up the spirit that was once sincere. The spirit of unity and taking large strides forward, toward a better future with no more pogroms and a safe Jewish people. Keeping us scared of the “possible” repetition of the atrocities of Nazi Germany, is much more useful. Every Jew killed, for whatever reason, by however an isolated nutjob, is used as a poster child to keep our blood boiling so we’re ready to embrace another war or another conquest of land, or another step taken towards gradually pushing Arabs off our/”our” land. Because…
1. We “need” the land – aka to kick out Arabs – to accommodate all the Jews we so mercifully save from the Diaspora that is becoming more dangerous to live in with every passing day: every 10 years or so, a hate crime hits a Jew… When is Africa calling home African Americans? Because if we’re going to talk about minority pogroms, Jews got off easy.
2. Arabs want a second Holocaust. Or so they say. Or so some of their deranged leaders say, and sadly, the loudest voices of the public are also always those of the deranged extremists. A less intelligent, intellectual person may just think that these extremists represent their domestic majority. I do not believe this. Israel’s loud and proud military, and having the monster that is the US on our side, may help keep “the Arab enemy” in check. However… Almost without exception, Arab enemies of Israel are fundamental Muslims. These people should not be afraid of dying in the name of, and for the return of their soul to, Allah. They would have good chances at annihilating us if they were to talk a little less openly about their intentions, and just unite and bomb us already. We have some 60,000 missiles aimed at us. Where are they? The “enemy” could do serious damage to Israel, a damage well worth the risk of being annihilated in response. After all, such a death would only be a reward, it would take their souls to Allah. So why don’t they?
Probably because most of them aren’t quite that bad.

Israelis need to believe that Arabs are our main problem. Otherwise, we would start to feel our hunger, to see the relative poverty many of us live in. We would wake up to real problems, not just the poverty itself, but the ease with which it could be ended. Money we work for, goes into settlements that are dismantled a decade later, into the non-contributing ultra-Orthodox, into an excessive military PR machine, into the training of redundant soldiers (there, I said it), and into the Netanyahu family. But since sharing the land with the Arabs has never been the intention of our “founding fathers”, picking at the Holocaust wound is a great opportunity to refresh our hatred for Arabs and anyone who may not fully approve of Israel, or all of its actions and policies. Except, a Jewish life is not worth more than an Arab’s. There is no genocide happening in Gaza or the West Bank, but what is happening can still not be justified with “never again”. A bunch of militant Arabs throwing rocks and aimless missiles, are not a threat to a strong nation.

Standing still on the siren’s cue isn’t gonna bring anyone back to life. The dead don’t feel the respect we pay them. Our ceremonies are doing no good to those who were actually affected by the Holocaust, neither dead, nor living.

Summing up, Israel loves the Holocaust because:

  1. It keeps us in an angry victim-like attitude that makes it easy to excuse policies and actions that would be described as racist or dehumanizing, or at the very least counterproductive, in any other place.
  2. Dwelling on the past and the dead instead of investing this time and money in the living and the future, distracts from more pressing but complicated issues.
  3. It gives us the warm fuzzy feeling that our government is staffed with caring human beings who make sure the dead are honored. How cute. While the living starve.
  4. The Holocaust propaganda Israel is running, is great for making Jews come to Israel and provide more taxpayers, more PR, and more reasons to get Arabs off the land. Because we need it for more Jews. Nevermind that life is easier in the real West. Nevermind that before the British mandate, this land was shared by both rather peacefully… Actually, organized Zionism destroyed the peace that the same organized Zionism is now pretending to fight to re-establish.
  5. It rings nicely to have a nation built upon the ashes of a sob story, so we can all share a massive group hug of reunion and looking forward. It justifies so much, not just excessive national pride mostly expressed by semi-literate arsim with a gold chain around their necks and a random Rabbi’s poster on their walls, Arab Jews who squeal “Death to Arabs”… Who have not lost anyone in Europe… No, it justifies so much more, and even makes it feel epic. We are the dramatic, angst-ridden anti-heroes who have to do what it takes to, well, never again and shit.

Well played, Israel.
